Send notifications when a new listing is found for my search
One of our most requested features has been to send a notification when we find a new listing for particular searches. We're constantly thinking about ways that we can make this a reality. Vote for this idea if you want to see it happen sooner rather than later!
155 votesWow, it’s been a while, hasn’t it! It hasn’t been mothballed, but it has been back-burnered in favor of a couple more pressing things. We’re working right now to improve keyword searches—we’ve already added support for positive and negative quoted phrases, and are planning to add full AND/OR logical searches soon. After that should be better classification of models and potentially trims, and THEN this is the next major feature planned after that.

Add a tool for searching enthusiast forums
We know that some of the best listings on the web are found in enthusiast forums. Because there are so many of them out there, it would be infeasible to add them all as separate sources to the main AutoTempest search, at least at the moment. We're planning on building a separate search tool to search specifically for ads on enthusiast forums. If you'd like to see this feature added sooner rather than later, vote for it!

Prominently have a link to save search criteria and get email updates for new listings and price reductions. Most search web sites offer it.

4 votesAbsolutely agree that we should have email alerts. We are working on some other priorities at the moment, but it is planned. Price change alerts are an interesting idea too, and one that we hadn’t considered before. I will add that to our list!

EV Filter
In Advance Search, please add option to choose engine type. For example:
gas, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, etc, etc..I am looking for pure EV's but there's no way to find them using your search. For example, If I want to find the cheapest EV in the country. I have to search for each individual make & model that i can think of and it takes forever!
4 votesDefinitely hoping to do this soon! Once we’re finished some current work, we just need to look into what information we get from our sources to see how difficult it will be. Absolutely agree that it would be useful though!

Search Kijiji, eh?

This one’s a bit tricky, because the Trofeo appears to be technically a trim level of the Toronado. I’m sure some people list them as just “Trofeo” without the Toronado though.
For now your best bet is probably to choose “Any Oldsmobile” and then enter Trofeo in the keywords box. We’re planning to revamp how we handle model names in the near future, so will keep this in mind then!

Allow city, state instead of just zip codes
Please code the basic search line to allow city, state instead of just zip codes. I am looking at buying a used car outside the rust belt and I keep having to a zip code search first.
1 voteThis is something we’re planning to do eventually. Only reason we haven’t done it yet is some other priorities we’re working on first.

Let us type in model names, instead of choosing yours.
Sometimes they are misspelled in the ads and can be found by misspelling them in the search blocks.
1 voteThis is one of our top priorities actually, and is planned. Also just a quick correction to the earlier response – we currently only include common misspellings for a handful of vehicles, so trying misspellings yourself is still definitely a good idea if you’re searching a model with common ones.

Please add these funtions to the Advanced Search.
Need Improvement: On the advanced search to allow you to select the following: Exterior color, Interior color, How many cylinders, different types of styles for a car (ex. coupe and sedan but not wagon, etc), fuel economy (range of mpg), and how many doors.
1 voteWe’re definitely planning to add as many of these as possible. The ability to select multiple bodystyles is a good idea as well; will look into that.

Missing Model- BMW 325it
Missing BMW 3 series wagon 325it
1 voteWe’ll get this added. In the meantime you can still search for it using the ‘Other model’ option.

Craigslist-Vehicle Type
For example, if I check "wagon" for the vehicle type, the search results are not actually filtered to wagons only. The craigslist results will show every type of vehicle.
1 voteAs far as I know, craigslist doesn’t have a way to filter by bodystyle. However, for things like wagons we could automatically add appropriate keywords. Will look into that. For now, at the top of the craigslist section in the results, there’s a section where you can edit the keywords for craigslist only. I would suggest adding “wagon” in there.

Separate Montero from Montero Sport: They are not the same...
When searching for "Montero" all the Montero Sports show up as well as it creates a lot to sift through to find the full-sized Montero's. They're not the same at all.
1 voteThis is an unfortunate consequence of how our model search currently works, which we are planning to overhaul. Basically, a number of our sources include a bunch of trim information after the model name, as as long as the beginning of the model matches, we show it as a match. That’s not ideal though, we know, so it will change.
For now, fortunately you can work around this. Just put -“Montero Sport” in the keywords section. (A hyphen (minus sign) followed by Montero Sport in quotes.) That will filter anything with that phrase out of the results, which should leave you with only the regular Montero.

More search parameters.
I am looking for an AWD sedan that can do 0-60 in under 5 seconds with either a v6 or v8 and preferably forced induction. I know this is really specific, but the more options to refine parameters the better. V6 V8 is really necessary to take a lot of cars I don't want out of the list.
1 voteWe are definitely planning to add more filters, including drivetrain (awd), and hopefully engine cylinders. For forced induction, we won’t have a separate filter, but we will soon have the ability to do an ‘OR’ search with keywords, something like (turbo OR turbocharged OR turbocharger OR supercharged OR supercharger). (Exact syntax may vary, but once it’s available we’ll show you how to use it with a help tip alongside the keywords box.)
